Business as Mission Resort
Can a for-profit business fall into the missions realm?
One of TAP’s strategic alliances is Business as Mission (BAM). BAM is a network of global partners seeking to accelerate the business as mission movement. To better explain this, read the story below.
This BAM company is located in an Asian country, which is majority Muslim. The company is a high-end resort serving those who live predominantly within a couple hours travel time from the resort. This BAM company has been in business for 20 years and has built an impressive operation with far less money than you would think, which is a testament to their business acumen and stewardship.
They have 2 facilities across the water from each other, the beach resort—geared for groups with dormitory style accommodations and the private island—a more high-end resort for families or couples in standalone villas. Both islands have overwater accommodations. Many school groups come for eco-tourism and to have extended experiences in the local sea villages where they immerse themselves in life there and engage in social impact work.
Their missional focus is to reach the communities in which they live, starting with their employees (a few are believers, but most are not), their families, and through direct investments in nearby communities. Some community impact services include English classes, college scholarships, planting thousands of mangrove trees, recycling and clean up, financial stewardship and life skills training.
This is one of the most unique BAM businesses in operation and we hope this gives a glimpse into what God is doing through His servants’ creativity in taking the Good News of Jesus to some of the most spiritually needy parts of the world.
