Michael and Katharina Robb
Michael, who was born and raised in Northeast Ohio, joined a trip to the Czech Republic after university, fell in love with European culture and started to dream of working with the church in Europe long-term. He moved to Germany in 2004 and met Katharina shortly after arriving. Katharina was born in Ethiopia where her parents were serving as development workers and grew up in Germany. Michael and Katharina were married in 2006 and have two inquisitive children.
Beginning with his B.A. in Christian Education (Wheaton College) Michael has been seeking answers to the question of how people grow in life and in the image of Jesus. He discovered the writings of Dallas Willard early on, who personally advised him to read widely in philosophy and theology of all ages. This led to taking an M.Th. in Systematic Theology (University of Aberdeen, UK) and to receiving a PhD for a thesis focusing on the theology of the kingdom of God, the person of Jesus and the gospel in none other than Dallas Willard’s thought. Katharina has a M.Sc. in maths and currently develops software solutions in computer vision and artificial intelligence. Her work has been an important part of God’s plan for the Robb family and an arm into the unchurched world of Europe. She is a graduate of the Renovaré Institute for Spiritual Formation.
Michael works as a writer and is always working on some larger project. Recently his book The Kingdom among Us: The Gospel according to Dallas Willard was published by Fortress Press. In 2017 Michael and Katharina founded Sanctus, a European Institute for Theology and Spirituality, whose vision is to see innumerable churches across Europe which knowledgably and routinely develop saints through their ministry. Learn more about this institute at https://sanctus.institute. Michael produces regular videos and podcasts for Sanctus which can be found at youtube.com/@SanctusInstitute.
The Robbs have lived in the center of Munich, Germany since 2009. They have walked alongside several German churches, helping them in various capacities such as preaching, teaching and leading small groups of leaders through curricula of Christlikeness. Michael is an ordained Presbyterian minister but in Munich, the Robbs attend a local Vineyard church. They love living in Europe and wish that many, many more Europeans could become friends of Jesus.
