Christy Hilderbrand
Christy serves in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Africa, in a juvenile prison ministry. She and her team partner with teenage girls to overcome past trauma, abandonment, and anger. They do this by building relationships and modeling how to experience Christ by experiencing joy. Christy and her team teach different joy practices to build attachment with the girls and show the love of Jesus. The overall goal is to provide the teens with the emotional, spiritual, and practical tools needed to be successful after their release from prison in both the Swazi culture and more importantly, in Kingdom culture.
Coming alongside and doing life with youth has been Christy’s heart for her entire adult life. She feels lucky to have been part of a church who puts an important emphasis on the next generation. Her experience serving two years as the Next-Gen Director has equipped her for such a time as this. Christy also is involved with the youth team at her local Swazi church, which helps in learning how to best support the Swazi youth.
Christy is the youngest of 3 in the most incredible family. She was raised in the PNW (Pacific Northwest) in Washington state with her family. She graduated from Grand Canyon University in 2020 with a Bachelors of English for Secondary Education and completed her student teaching and substitute teaching at the same high school she graduated from. When Christy is on home assignment, she spends most of her time in Georgia where her parents and brother live.
